DoD Toolkit Helps Servicemembers in Transition
Getting out of the military can be a tough decision to make, especially with unemployment rates high. For those leaning toward that decision, a good GPS is a must have item. Fortunately, the Department of Defense has recently released just such a tool. The Career Decision Toolkit offers CD and hyperlinked web resources to help Service Members and their families with Goals, Plan and Succeed (GPS).
Whether you are completing your contracted period of service, demobilizing or deactivating from a period of active duty, or retiring after many years of service, this toolkit was designed with you in mind. The toolkit provides direction and guidance as you and your family successfully transition from military life to the civilian world.
Each toolkit is packed with over 3,000 resources, tools, checklists for easy planning, and much more. All of this is packaged on an interactive CD which can be used at work, at home, on the go, or when you decide it's time to embark on a journey of career exploration. No classroom, no scheduling. You define when the time is right for you to put this product to use.
The Toolkit contains interactive resources and learning tools designed to guide you along your journey. It does so through the use of technology and links to the Internet that can be easily accessed from any computer. This is meant to complement the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) workshops that you and your family should attend.
Best of all, DoD designed the toolkit to allow for service specific localization. That means this GPS will work for you whether you are in the Army, Air Force or Marine Corps. You wouldn't consider setting off on a long journey without a map. Don't consider leaving the military without a GPS. You can pick one up at your local Transition Assistance Program Office.
