Fall in LOVE with Wichita Falls
Red River families who regularly travel to Wichita Falls simply for the shopping just don’t know what they are missing. The city is chock full of interesting, family-friendly day trip options. So step out of your routine and fall in love with The Falls.
If you’re not familiar with the city, you’ll want to take one of the walking tours offered by Historical Tours of Wichita Falls. Choose from daytime, dark side and riverside cemetery tours. Eight in a group is required, so you may want to call a few friends to join you. Walking tours are so much fun though, and once you’ve done one, you may decide to go back for the other tours.
Riverbend Nature Center has one of the few butterfly conservatories in the area. Although the conservatory is definitely an exciting piece of the nature center, it isn’t all there is to do at Riverbend. http://riverbendnaturecenter.wordpress.com.
The Wichita Theatre and Opera House is one of the longest running venues in the city. Housed in a lovingly cared for historic building, the theatre now specializes in family-friendly plays and musical theatre. During March you’ll find The Adventures of Tom Sawyer on stage. The April musical production is everyone’s favorite The Sound of Music and in May Kidz on Stage presents Disney’s The Aristrocats Kids.
The Kell House Museum overlooks the city and was once the home of one of the city’s developers, his wife and eight children. The museum regularly holds wonderfully interactive events that are sure to be a hit with your whole family.
Another great destination is the Wichita Falls Multi-purpose Event Center (MPEC). They host a variety of shows on stage and in the arena buildings, including rodeos, dog shows, RV expos, car shows, sporting events, stage productions and eclectic concerts.
If you prefer your entertainment to be active, check out Wichita Falls roller rink, Skate Whirl. Although always fun and affordable, Skate Whirl routinely holds military appreciation days and Sunday afternoon “matinees” are only $5, including skate rental.
So whether you are ready for an afternoon in nature or at the museum or an evening court-side or near the orchestra pit, Wichita Falls has something – in addition to shopping – for everyone in your family!
