6th Annual Comanche County Boots & Bling Scoot COLOR RUN
Register now for the 6th Annual Comanche County Boots & Bling Scoot Color Run benefitting the American Cancer Society to be held Saturday, July 11, in Medicine Park. This is a five-kilometer, un-timed race in which participants, or "color runners," are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. With only two rules, the idea is easy to follow: wear white at the starting line and finish plastered in color! There will also be a one-mile fun run to kick off the event!
Sign up to run! Register online at www.signmeup.com/106349 or at the Lawton office of the American Cancer Society, located at 1320 NW Homestead Drive, Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Entry fees are $20 for the Fun Run (kids encouraged) and $30 for the 5K Color Run. The early sign-up deadline is June 24, 2015. Register early to ensure you receive a free race shirt on race day! Online and in-person registration closes July 7 and race day registration will begin at 7 a.m. on July 11.
Sign up to volunteer! They are always looking for dedicated volunteers to help them plan and organize their annual events.
Volunteer opportunities and details are posted on their Facebook page.
Each contribution helps fund the battle against cancer by supporting the Society's research, education, and advocacy programs, as well as its patient services.

RESPECT THE WILD ANIMALS
Recently a teen posing for a photo near a bison at Yellowstone National Park was gored by the animal. We are lucky to have lots of free- roaming bison and longhorns at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, but please remember that wild animals are – WILD! Here are some helpful safety tips from the National Wildlife Federation:
Teach children early on to observe through quiet observation and to NEVER approach, try to touch, or feed wildlife. Sadly, animals that become habituated to humans eventually become aggressive and may have to be euthanized. Here are more tips:
• Observe wildlife from a distance.
• Do not follow or approach them.
• Never feed animals (store food and trash securely).
• Control pets at all times.
• Avoid wildlife during sensitive times: mating, nesting, or raising young.
