Gadgets & Gizmos: Youth Love Fashionable Bottle Caps

by Sarah Greer Osborne
Texas middle school student Maddie Bradshaw is making her mark in the young girl and teen jewelry arena by revolutionizing the bottle cap and the magnet.

With a desire for something clever and magnetic for her locker, the sixth grader took bottle caps from her uncle's coke machine, drew cute designs on the inside and attached them to a magnet.
"My friends and I liked them so much, I chose to attach them to a necklace cord," says Maddie. "The bottle caps can be swapped out and changed depending on your outfit or mood." The caps created such a buzz at Maddie's Dallas area school that she began selling them at a local retailer. Then her younger sister Margot, age 8, got involved and the two girls and their mom formed M3 Girl Designs (for Maddie, Margot and Mom). Now a year later, M3 Girl Designs has 15 employees and has sold over a million dollars. The "snap caps" are available in toy and specialty shops across the country.
